A small but precise audience: why relevance beats size in partner programs
4 min read · 10 October 2026
In short
In a partner program the size of your audience weighs less than its relevance: in our application scoring, size is 25 % and relevance 35 %. An audience of 4,000 who are exactly the product's buyers almost always beats an audience of 300,000 for whom the product is one of many. Show in your application who your audience is and what it buys.
Why does size not decide?
Because the commission is paid on a sale, not on reach. A big general audience sees the link, but few of them are about to buy this. A small precise audience is already interested in the subject — and trusts you, because that is exactly what you talk about.
How does relevance show in the numbers?
| Figure | General audience | Precise audience |
|---|---|---|
| Followers | 300,000 | 4,000 |
| Clicks from a post | 1,500 | 240 |
| Sales | 6 | 12 |
Example figures. The precise audience clicks less often, but buys many times more.
What should you write in your application?
- Who your audience is. A profession, an industry or a life situation — not just a follower count.
- What it has bought on your recommendation. One example is enough.
- In which channel. A newsletter, a video, a community or in person.
- Why the product suits them in particular. One sentence.
How do you grow relevance?
Pick programs whose buyer is already in your audience. Talk about the product when your audience asks about it, not in every post. And use a SubID to see which channel brings sales — often it is the smallest.
What are the most common mistakes?
- The application gives only a follower count. A number without a description of the audience says nothing about whether anyone buys.
- The same link everywhere without a SubID. You cannot tell what works.
- Too many programs. Products unrelated to the audience eat away its trust.

Questions
Is my audience too small to apply?
Rarely. Size is 25 % of the score and relevance 35 %. If your audience is exactly the program's buyer, size is not the blocker.
How do I show relevance in the application?
Describe who your audience is and what it has bought on your recommendation. One concrete example says more than a follower count.
Should I grow my audience before applying?
Not necessarily. Apply to a program whose buyer is already in your audience, then grow the channel that brings sales.
